…of the day: a powerful speech on the arts

It makes me a bit disappointed that my English-speaking readers won’t be able to understand this speech because it is in French.  I’m hoping to find an English translation or transcript somewhere on the interwebs.  This is by far the most important and most powerful speech I’ve ever heard about the status of the arts and the importance of its existence in Canada.  It’s presented by Wajdi Mouawad.  Though it was presented during the “Vote Culture” movement that took place when Harper was making all sorts of cuts to the arts, the arguments presented in this speech are still relevant today and serve to expose the truth of what it’s like to be an artist in Canadian society today.

Watch it and pass it on to your francophone friends.  If I do find an English transcript, I’ll post an update.
