It’s time for the book giveaway for the month of May. This month, I’ve picked out a fiction book that I think might interest a lot of people. It’s a novella called “The Anthem” and it was written by Ayn Rand. She’s more known for stories like Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead but I absolutely love The Anthem and I think it’s highly recommended reading if you like her other work.
The Anthem is a dystopian story like “Farenheit 451″, “1984″ and “Brave New World”. It’s a story where you can learn about the effects of conformity, power and the loss of reason and rationality. You’ll see the disastrous effects of what happens when we remove the individual from a society. After reading this, you’ll be careful about using the word “we”!
If you’ve ever wondered if one person can make a difference, if you’ve ever wondered why you struggle so much to fit in and if you’ve ever wondered if your voice matters, this is a novel for you.
A few worthwhile quotes to share from The Anthem:
“But what is freedom? Freedom from what? There is nothing to take a man’s freedom away from him, save other men. To be free, a man must be free of his brothers. That is freedom. That and nothing else.”
“Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me; the guiding star and the loadstone which point the way. They point in but one direction. They point to me.”
“I shall choose friends among men, but neither slaves nor masters. And I shall choose only such as please me, and them I shall love and respect, but neither command nor obey. And we shall join our hands when we wish, or walk alone when we so desire.”

I’m not a big fan of Rand’s writing so I’ll pass on this one, but still, the giveaway is a great idea!
heh, thanks! so are you saying that you want me to disregard your comment as an entry for the giveaway then? otherwise, you’re entered!
Yep, please disregard. =)
As you wish, you’re officially NOT entered in the draw.
I’d like it.
Sounds like a great read, I’d like to be in your draw but I don’t twitter. I don’t even know what twittering is? I suppose you would need a cell phone for that? I’m probably one of the few people my age without one. Yes, I need to come out from the stone ages, lol.
Hello,
Actually, that’s my bad! I just realized that I didn’t say “do one of the following”. You don’t have to comment and follow me on twitter. Just fixed that!
So, you’re in the draw!
Oh no worries… most of the nerds I know think that the whole world is on Twitter, but it just isn’t the case. Most of my friends my age aren’t on Twitter! I don’t think it has enough widespread appeal. I barely use it. Though as a blogger, I should probably use it more often.
That’s great, I hope I win.

G’luck!
